“Closer” is a song by American DJ duo The Chainsmokers, which also features American singer Halsey. Andrew Taggart also sings in the song. It was released on July 29th in 2016, via Disruptor Records and Columbia Records. Writing credits go to Andrew Taggart, Ashley Frangipane, Shaun Frank, Freddy Kennett, Isaac Slade and Joe King. Producing was done by The Chainsmokers themselves.
“Closer” was the first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States for both The Chainsmokers and Halsey. It managed to hold this position for 12 weeks in a row, and it spent 26 weeks in the top five.
Out of the United States, the song managed to top the charts in various countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland and the United Kingdom, which made it both The Chainsmokers’ and Halsey’s first number-one single in all six countries. It also became only the second song in the history of the Hot 100 chart to spend 32 weeks in the top ten of the chart.
The song had it’s live debut at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April of 2016.
